Our Board of Directors brings a diverse range of professional skills, lived experiences, and community relationships to govern the organization.

Dr. Roberta Lenger Kang, Chair
Dr. Roberta Lenger Kang is the Board Chair and has served on the Board of Directors since 2022. Dr. Lenger Kang is a dedicated educator and leader in teacher professional development, currently serving as Executive Director at the Center for the Professional Education of Teachers at Teachers College, Columbia University. With over 20 years of experience spanning K-12 and higher education, she combines classroom teaching expertise with instructional leadership. Dr. Lenger Kang hosts the Teaching Today podcast, publishes extensively on educational topics, and presents at national and international conferences. Her work focuses on curriculum development, assessment strategies, culturally responsive education, and empowering teachers through professional learning communities. She holds an Ed.D in English Education from Teachers College and is passionate about transforming educational systems through innovative teacher support.

Edith Kang, Vice Chair
Edith Kang is the Vice Chair, and has served on the Board of Directors since 2017. She has spent nearly two decades conducting research on homelessness, financial wellness, and economic mobility at MDRC, a nonprofit and nonpartisan social research organization. Edith is a long-time member of New Life Fellowship’s Elmhurst congregation and has lived in Western Queens (Elmhurst and Woodside) since 2012. She holds a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from Duke University.

Sherin Swift, Treasurer
Sherin Swift has served on the Board of Directors since 2023. Sherin is the Pastor of Connections and Equipping at New Life Fellowship Church. Previously, she served as Director of Finance for a growing nonprofit in Washington Heights, overseeing a $2+ million budget. Earlier in her career, she worked in an accounting firm where she was a trusted consultant to a variety of businesses and nonprofits.

Janet Londoño-Valle, Secretary
Janet Londoño-Valle has served on the Board of Directors since 2016. Janet is a Senior Investment Officer in the Real Estate group at the Office of the NYC Comptroller’s Bureau of Asset Management. At the Comptroller’s Office, she plays a key role in the development and implementation of the strategic plans for the ~$19 billion real estate investment portfolio. Prior to her role in BAM, she was a Director of Financial Management, in the Office of the Deputy Comptroller for Public Finance. She earned her Masters of Public Administration in Public Policy & Finance at NYU Wagner School of Public Service.

Alan Chan
Alan Chan has served on the Board of Directors since 2012. Alan has served as the Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for FormFactor, Inc. since 2024. Prior to that, he served as Chief Legal & People Officer and Corporate Secretary of BowFlex Inc. Prior to BowFlex, Alan worked at Arrow Electronics, Inc. as their Vice President, Legal Affairs and Assistant Corporate Secretary. Alan began his legal career at Kaye Scholer LLP in New York, NY where he was a patent litigator. Alan holds a B.S. in biology from Binghamton University and a J.D. from Emory University School of Law.

Kurtis Falcone
Kurtis Falcone has served on the Board of Directors since 2021. Kurtis is the Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the New York State Attorney General. He previously served as the Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Law Department. Kurtis earned his Juris Doctor degree at City University of New York School of Law.

Jeff Patch
Jeff Patch has served on the Board of Directors since 2025. Jeff retired after a 31-year career at Bank of America, most recently serving as Senior Vice President of Global Commercial Banking. Jeff previously served as Trustee, Vice President and Treasurer of Church of the Redeemer, a large multi-campus and multiracial ministry based in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Carol Yu
Carol Yu has served on the Board of Directors since 2025. Carol brings over a decade of experience in social enterprises, with leadership roles across education and health focused organizations, including late-stage startups whose investors included Bill Gates, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and the World Bank. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a Master’s degree from Harvard University.

Rich Villodas, Chair Emeritus
Rich Villodas is the Chair-Emeritus of the Board of Directors, and is the Lead Pastor of New Life Fellowship, a large multiracial church with more than seventy-five countries represented, in Elmhurst, Queens. Pastor Villodas is the author of several books, including the award-winning Deeply Formed Life, Good and Beautiful and Kind, and The Narrow Path. Pastor Villodas graduated with a BA in pastoral ministry and theology from Nyack College, and went on to complete his Master of Divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary.
